ADMISSION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO
Students taking courses delivered by Engineering Outreach must be admitted to the University of Idaho. They follow the same admission procedures as on-campus students, working with the academic departments and UI Admissions Office.
Students may apply online, or download application forms from the Admissions web site. Admission status options include: non-degree seeking, undergraduate, and graduate.
Non-degree admission
Undergraduate admission
Graduate admission
International/Non-U.S. citizen admission
Non-degree Admission
Non-degree students receive credit; with academic departmental approval, some of these credits may be applied toward a master's degree at the University of Idaho at a later date. Students apply for non-degree admission for some of the following reasons:
- pursue studies for personal or professional advancement
- meet the registration deadline while graduate admission is in process
- take prerequisites prior to graduate admission
- earn credits to transfer to another university
- earn an academic certificate
Non-degree applications are processed by the Undergraduate Admissions Office, usually within one week of receipt.
Non-degree students may register for no more than 7 credits each semester and may complete a maximum of 32 semester credits at the University of Idaho. Non-degree students cannot be considered for federal or state financial aid, and must obtain permission from the instructor to enroll in 500-level courses. Refer to Part 2 of the UI General Catalog for more information about non-degree status.
Undergraduate Admission
Engineering Outreach delivers a wide variety of undergraduate courses, but it is not possible to earn an undergraduate degree completely at a distance through the program. Undergraduate students who take courses on campus may register for Engineering Outreach course delivery; however there are additional fees, and students must register on the EO website instead of using VandalWeb.
Graduate Admission
Students who satisfy all criteria listed below will be considered for graduate admission to the University of Idaho:
- Have a bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a recognized accrediting association.
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher for the last 60 semester credits (or 90 quarter credits) or an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher.
- Have maintained at least a 2.80 GPA in subsequent academic work, if any.
- Have been reviewed and recommended for acceptance by the department administering the program in which the student seeks to enroll. For individual departmental admission requirements, please refer to Part 5 of the UI General Catalog.

Students seeking graduate admission, who have not received an acceptance letter before the EO registration deadline, may apply for non-degree status while the graduate application is in process. Credits for courses taken by students with non-degree status are not automatically transferable into a master's program. We recommend that students work closely with a faculty adviser during this process.
