E-MAIL & INTERNET REQUIREMENTS

Visit UI VandalSetup to set up the following online accounts provided for student use:

  • VandalWeb (personal information: addresses, payments, grades and transcripts)
  • VandalMail Live (UI's official e-mail system, required for all students)
  • Blackboard (course web sites provided by some instructors)

E-mail and Internet access are required for all EO students and their proctors to enable communication with Engineering Outreach staff, instructors, university departments, and EO classmates. Students are held accountable for all information sent to the e-mail address established when they register. UI's e-mail policy may be viewed at http://www.students.uidaho.edu.

All EO students students are assigned a UI e-mail address when they are admitted to the University of Idaho, and they use VandalMail Live to access their e-mail.

VandalMail Live
VandalMail Live is a Microsoft e-mail application with an interface very similar to Microsoft's Hotmail Web application. For information about this application, visit http://support.uidaho.edu/live, or call (800) 824-2889 during Engineering Outreach business hours, ask for Stephen Fischer or the ITS Help Desk.

E-mail confidentiality
UI considers e-mail addresses "directory information." Directory information is not protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), unless you specifically request it to be confidential. Your directory information will be kept confidential ONLY if you submit the Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information form to the Registrar's Office. For most courses and at your instructor's discretion, EO distributes a class roster with e-mail addresses to all non-confidential EO students at the beginning of each semester. If this form is not filed with the Registrar, your e-mail address may be released to the other students in the same course. If you request your e-mail confidentiality after registration, please inform EO by contacting our Student Services Coordinator at (800) 824-2889 (press 2). To download the form, or for more information about FERPA, go to http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu.

Computer Science student accounts
All computer science graduate students, and most students taking computer science courses, will need to obtain a computer account from the Computer Science (CS) Department to complete homework and research assignments, and to access certain software. This account is valid only for the semester in which you are enrolled in the course, and will expire at the end of the semester unless you make prior arrangements with the CS Department. Please contact the Computer Science Help Desk at help@cs.uidaho.edu to set up this account.
