COURSE DELIVERY

Engineering Outreach combines innovative technologies in an integrated approach to course delivery. Recorded class lectures are provided online and on DVD. Most courses are Web-supported with additional online course materials. Delivery of supplementary materials varies by course, and may also include CDs or other printed materials. See Course Shipping.

Media formats and requirements
For technical assistance with DVD lectures or questions about media formats, contact Terri Gaffney, (800) 824-2889 (press 0).

  • Windows 98 SE or later (XP or Vista recommended)
  • DVD player capable of playing DVD-R discs
  • VideoLAN VLC Media Player or Power DVD 5.0 or later

DVD player requirements
DVD player capable of playing back the DVD-R (DVD minus R) format. (Some earlier units cannot play recordable DVDs and will only play factory-produced discs.)

Blackboard
Blackboard is the online course management system currently in use at the University of Idaho. It provides course web sites for supplementary course materials, and other features such as online discussion groups and access to grades for individual exams and assignments.

Not all EO courses require the use of Blackboard because many EO instructors have developed web sites independent of Blackboard for their courses.  See Courses Offered for links from the course descriptions to the independent course web sites.

Courses with Blackboard components require a username and password. For technical assistance, go to Blackboard Student Help.

CD-ROM
Supplementary materials for some courses are delivered on CD-ROM; these typically include course hand-outs and notes in PDF format.

Media terms of use
Course media are for Engineering Outreach student use only. Media content is time sensitive and valid for the semester offered. Students may keep the DVDs for personal reference at the end of the semester, but they may not be sold or distributed, and reproduction is prohibited under copyright law without written permission from Engineering Outreach.
